Waste wood-fired power plant 

Together with our consortium partner, Interserve Construction Ltd., B&W Vølund signed an EPC/turnkey contract to build Glennmont’s Green Energy Biomass Project at Margam, near Port Talbot in Wales. In addition, B&W Vølund will provide operations and maintenance services for 15 years.

Efficient use of waste wood 

The Margam Green Energy Plant will be capable of processing waste wood, including contaminated wood and fuel containing metals, with no pre-treatment required. The facility will also be capable of using municipal waste as a fuel source in the future. With an annual combustion of 335,000 tonnes of wood waste, producing 40 MWe, the plant will be able to supply electricity to 78,000 households.

The plant will feature the patented advanced DynaGrate® which can handle all types of biomass and waste.
Our state-of-the-art combustion grate, the DynaGrate®, is one of the most advanced combustion grates on the waste-to-energy market. It is based on 40 years of research and development of the renowned Bruun & Sørensen technology. 

15-year operations and maintenance contract

To further de-risk the project for the plant owner, Glennmont Partners, B&W Vølund entered into a 15-year contract to provide full operations and maintenance services. The Margam plant is one of three renewable plants in the UK that have signed a 15-year O&M contract with B&W Vølund. All of these plants and future UK plants will benefit from B&W Vølund having a UK-focused structure in place with the added benefits of prompt servicing and provision of spares.
