The climate is everybody’s responsibility

Global warming isn’t a myth. And it’s not just going to go away. We have a common goal – to keep our plant safe and to maintain our good quality of life.

Here at Babcock & Wilcox Vølund, we started long before these concerns even become environmental issues – since 1931 to be exact. Not surprisingly, our waste-to-energy technologies are among the world’s most advanced.

These are just a few of our key environmental goals:

  • eliminate leaching of harmful toxins
  • exceed all environmental safety requirements
  • minimize CO2 emissions

Our work comes down to this: turning waste into energy, which is one of the easiest and most environmentally safe technologies available today.

Waste-to-energy

Waste-to-energy isn’t just a trash disposal method. It’s a way to recover valuable resources. And when you think about it, “energy recovery” is really what “recycling” is all about – conserving resources by using them as efficiently as possible.

Biomass energy

Biomass – hay, wood chips, etc. – differs substantially from fossil fuels because when biomass is produced sustainably, the new trees and other plants remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and thus provide a natural carbon offset.

Gasification

The key advantage of gasification (as compared to normal biomass combustion) is the small size of the physical installation. Moreover, electrical efficiency may be over 6% higher, which is a major environmental consideration!
