Third biomass gasification plant in Japan: Licensee, JFE Environmental Solutions sells new plant to Daio Paper Corporation

The new gasification plant is our first industrial energy conversion plant. We trust that this new application will be the model of an epoch-making solution that will help industries reduce green house gases and energy costs.

The new plant at Daio Paper Corporation, Shikokuchuo-shi in Japan

JFE Environmental Solutions in Japan has received its third contract for an advanced biomass gasification plant based on our updraft gasification technology.

The new plant is owned by Daio Paper Corporation and is located at Daio’s Kani-Works facility (Kani-shi, Gifu-ken) in Shikokuchuo-shi, Ehime-ken Prefecture.

Industrial energy conversation - a new high efficiency application

The Daio gasification plant generates a syngas derived from wood for the existing production facilities. The syngas replaces heavy oil consumption and consequently reduces the dependency of fossil fuel for paper production. This is a completely new application of a gasifier in Japan.

Epoch-making solution for reducing green house gases and energy costs

The Vølund Systems™ biomass gasification facility was originally developed as a power generation plant. This new application, with energy conversion, will be the model of an epoch-making solution that will help industries reduce green house gases(GHG), emissions and energy costs.

“We are glad to announce this new high efficiency application of our gasification technology and that Babcock & Wilcox Vølund again are able to show market leadership by introducing this state of the art conversion plant. In line with increasing fossil energy prices and heightened focus on the critical issue of energy cost savings at energy intensive production facilities, the market demand for energy conversion from fossil fuels to biomass fuels is high on the world’s agenda. It is of critical importance that we reduce our dependency on fossil fuel and with this new application we can help industries prepare for the next decade’s competition.” says Mr. Peter Laursen, License & Partner Manager – Babcock & Wilcox Vølund A/S.

Our partnership with JFE Environmental Solutions

The relationship with JFE Environmental Solutions Co., one of Babcock & Wilcox Vølund’s long term partners, has lasted more than 35 years. We have various mutual agreements for utilising novel proprietary technologies and we are making every effort to promote biomass gasification and to maintain our leading position on the market.

The new Vølund Systems™ biomass gasification plant at Kani city. This is JFE's third gasification project following the Yamagata Green Power Plant and the Ishikawa Green Power Plant and will be the first plant utilising industrial energy conversion. The former two plants utilise power generation where generated gas fuels gas engine generators.
