Waste-to-energy: Huge order for a CHP plant in Hamar, Norway

Babcock & Wilcox Vølund lands mega order for waste fired combined heat and power plant (CHP) in Hamar, Norway. The plant is worth EUR 35 million. We are seriously gaining ground in the attractive Norwegian market with this order.

Agreement with Eidsiva Bioenergi

The new mega order for Trehørningen Hamar in Norway, is our largest contract value for one single project to date. We have just signed a contract with Eidsiva Bioenergi for the supply of a complete CHP plant with a capacity of approx. 10 tonnes waste per hour, resulting in the total production of 32.5 MW.

The new waste-to-energy plant in Trehørningen, Hamar, Norway

The new CHP plant will be situated in Trehørningen, approx. 150 km north of Oslo, just outside the town of Hamar. The plant will be completed in 2011.

The order

We will be supplying, installing and commissioning the CHP plant. The plant has a capacity of 10 t/h at 13 MJ/kg. The order also includes supplying Hamar with our newest and most modern technology in the coming years. We are presently working on supplying another waste fired combined heat and power plant to Tafjord Kraft in Ålesund, Norway which means the two projects will be underway at the same time.

We will be supplying, installing and commissioning:

Large potential for our technology in Norway

"Babcock & Wilcox Vølund have already installed three waste fired combined heat and power plants in Norway. With a generally explosive demand for eco friendly energy solutions, well supported by Norwegian legislative requirements for waste management, the country is well on the way to becoming one of the largest growth markets for us" comments Managing Director, John Veje Olesen.

In the next few years alone, Norway is scheduled to build between 6 and 8 new CHP plants for waste and biomass combustion to an estimated market value of over DKK 2 billion.

With the huge Hamar order and our strengthened position in the Norwegian market, we are well prepared to compete for future Norwegian contracts.

Our current two projects in Norway: Eidsiva Bioenergi, Trehørningen Hamar and Tafjord Kraft in Ålesund
