New waste-to-energy plant for Boden Energi AB

Babcock & Wilcox Vølund and Boden Energi AB, Sweden, have signed a contract for the delivery of a 22 MWt Waste to Energy boiler and grate. The contract will be executed together with our Swedish partner ETK AB. The new boiler will be built in connection with Boden Energi AB’s existing facilities but will, in principle, be a stand-alone unit.

The steam data of the boiler are 40 bara / 400°C and the boiler will deliver steam to a steam turbine which will deliver approximately 4MWe, depending on district heating temperatures. The condensing heat will be used in the district heating network in the town of Boden. The boiler is a vertical type boiler with two empty passes and one vertical pass. The boiler cleaning will take place with steam sootblowers and water guns.

The boiler is equipped with an air-cooled Vølund waste-to-energy grate. Bottom ash and grate siftings are handled in an ETK submerged chain conveyor.

Construction will start in October 2006 and take-over will take place at the beginning of 2008.
