Combustion grates
Grates for biomass have been in continuous focus at Babcock & Wilcox Vølund for more than 25 years, when the need for alternative energy sources such as biomass first became apparent.
Since then we have supplied more than fifty biomass solutions within a broad variety of bio-fuels.
The biomass grate
The biomass grate is an an integral part of the furnace design forming the hearth of our biomass plants designed to convert fuel into energy.
We have a range of grate and feeding systems for optimal energy efficiency. These systems are designed to provide the best possible base for fuel feeding, drying, ignition, combustion and energy release while transporting the fuel from inlet through to the bottom ash outlet.
Our biomass grates are unique
- Our biomass grates are considered by our clients to be remarkably robust, reliable and flexible, requiring very low maintenance even under harsh conditions.
- Our biomass grates and feeding systems are designed for an array of different biomass fuels prepared for long-term operation and stable and optimal combustion.
- Specific types of biomass fuels require a specific feeding device and grate to ensure optimal combustion.
- The co-firing of more than one fuel type is sometimes required.
- We have air-cooled as well as water-cooled grate solutions and thus are able to burn a wide variety of biomass fuel types.
- We can also supply an individual solutions to fulfil specific customer’s needs.
- Since their launch, our grates have been continuously updated, and they now offer a highly reliable and optimal solution on today’s market.
